Michael Melgaard is a writer and editor based in Toronto. His first collection of short fiction will be published by House of Anansi Press in early 2020. His fiction has appeared in Grain, The Puritan, The Antigonish Review, and other magazines in the U.S. and U.K. His story, “A Pregnancy,” was honorably mentioned in The Humber Literary Review‘s Emerging Writers’ Fiction Contest, with judge Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer calling the story “…an extraordinary, urgent, and devastating rendering.” He was a regular contributor to the National Post‘s book section, and has contributed articles and criticism to The Millions, Torontoist, and Canadian Notes & Queries. He is represented by Marilyn Biderman at the Transatlanitc Agency.
As an editor, he has worked in-house at McClelland & Stewart, Penguin Random House, and an independently owned, Canadian publisher. He has edited over fifty books, including a half-dozen Globe & Mail bestsellers and several award-nominated books.
